New traffic lights and splash park discussed at City Council meeting

The Maryville City Council met last week.

Items on the agenda included an ordinance to execute a contract for animal control between the city of Maryville and the New Nodaway Humane Society, a resolution accepting improvements in Ridgeline Estates and a discussion on the Northwest Regional Airport Plan.

City Manager Greg McDanel adds the biggest item on the agenda was the contract with Snyder and Associates to provide professional engineering services for Traffic Signal Design.

"The big item from the last City Council meeting was the with Snyder & Associates to provide engineering services for Traffic Signal Design.  This involves the traffic signals at 3rd and 4th along Main Street.  These areas were revitalized during the 2009 downtown treescape project; however, due to funding and challenges at the time, temporary traffic signals were placed and have been there since 2009.  So this project will replace those 2 traffic signals with permanent black powder-coated mast arms that will more adequately reflect the revitalization of downtown."

McDanel adds that the City of Maryville and Maryville Parks and Rec announced the addition of a new park.

"On Friday the City of Maryville and Maryville Parks & Rec released a press release announcing the addition of a new park to Maryville due to the generous donation of Dick and Kate Thompson.  The family has donated land.  An upcoming project to construct a splash park call the Thompson Splash & Play, which will be great for families in this area to enjoy splash pad features as well as other park features moving forward."

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Maryville City Council in on November 25th at 7 p.m.
